Vintage Fancy-Cut Synthetic Alexandrite and Topaz Ring

Dating to the Retro Era, the corner prongs on this vintage ring hold the stone perfectly in place. The center stone is a gorgeous fancy-cut synthetic alexandrite, which is a color-changing stone, and turns from a regal purple to a beautiful teal blue-green depending on the light that hits it! 

This stone dates back to the 1950s when synthetic corundum was produced to imitate synthetic alexandrite. In the vintage and estate industry, these synthetic corundum (synthetic sapphire) gemstones from this period are almost always referred to as synthetic alexandrite even though they are chemically synthetic corundum. The chemical properties of this stone are synthetic corundum but the trade name is synthetic alexandrite.
