Vintage Sterling Silver Cameo Brooch

This cameo is stunning! Crafted of silver, the simple bezel with ornate filigree provides a lovely framework for this classic cameo. The image here is immaculately carved, and the large size allows for fine detail.

Cameo is the art of carving a layered material, creating a portrait or landscape with the difference in the colors. While traditionally done in shell, banded onyx has been used in cameo work - particularly in Greece and Italy - for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
