Large Art Nouveau Cameo Pendant with Floral Frame of Green Gold

Classic and lovely, this antique, converted brooch combines a wonderful classical portrait with an intricate filigree frame. The handmade gold frame is a rich green hue, with layers of twisting ivy and delicate bead details. The ancient motif is carried over into the lady's hair, with carefully carved roses decorating her perfectly flowing hair. Particularly well carved, there is a distinct personality here, found in the lady's face, and her gentle eyes. This is a large-scale cameo pendant; converted from its original use as a brooch.

Cameo is the art of carving a layered material, creating a portrait or landscape with the difference in the colors. While traditionally done in shell, banded onyx has been used in cameo work - particularly in Greece and Italy - for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
