    This pretty vintage piece features a beautifully etched botanical frame. The cameo depicts a woman standing on a river's edge overlooking a covered bridge. Called landscape cameos, these are portraits of the place they were created, an image of an old city caught in an artistic shell.

    Cameo is the art of carving a layered material, creating a portrait or landscape with a difference in colors. While traditionally done in shell, banded onyx has been used in cameo work - particularly in Greece and Italy - for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
